Preventive Health Care
& Senior Care

At Foxbank Veterinary Hospital, we recognize the importance of preventing diseases in your pet. Our recommendations may range from a diet change to detailed physical therapy. Our veterinarian suggests that you have annual blood tests performed on your pet to help identify diseases early on. For senior pets, we recommend that you bring them to our veterinary hospital twice annually to address any issues that could arise as they age.

Dental Care

Dental health is incredibly important in pets. Tartar, gingivitis and tooth decay are issues that occur over time in many pets due to the fact that they don’t brush their teeth. Dental disease is a constant source of infection for your pet’s heart, kidney and other organs. It could also cause discomfort. Our veterinary hospital has the most up to date equipment, including digital dental X-rays. We are well-trained in the latest dental techniques, and our veterinarian has spent time training under board-certified veterinary dentists. We strive to educate you on the importance of dental care so that your pet can stay happy and healthy for years to come.

Ear Disease

Ear disease or “otitis” is one of the most common diseases that our veterinarian treats. This disease is often caused by underlying allergies that your pet has. It often results in shaking and rubbing of the ears or face. At Foxbank Veterinary Hospital, our goal is to treat your pet’s ears so that we can mediate the current infection and prevent future infections.

Heartworm & Flea Prevention

Heartworm and flea protection have become more effective and easier to use in recent years. Our veterinarian spent time studying the different types of products that are available on the market in order to choose the safest and most effective options for your pets. We understand that each pet has different needs, which is why we will develop a protocol to ensure that we prevent heartworms and fleas for your pet. We receive all products directly from the manufacturer, and we have a guarantee on them.

Many online pharmacies do not purchase their products directly from the manufacturer, and some of the products purchased for those pharmacies are from foreign countries. Spay & Neuter

Spaying or neutering is important to control the pet population and reduce unwanted behaviors. We strive to make the spaying or neutering process as easy and pain-free as possible for your pet. Our veterinarian takes a number of precautionary steps, which includes placing an IV catheter in every patient to provide fluids before, during and after anesthesia. This plays an important role in providing comfort after surgery, as well as preventing kidney disease in the future.

For this procedure, our team will wear sterile gowns and gloves, and use sterile instruments and sutures. We have a dedicated surgery room that is cleaned specifically for this purpose. Your pet’s blood pressure, oxygen level, temperature, heart rate and rhythm will be measured throughout their procedure. We also focus pain management by providing three different pain medications during surgery. All sutures we use are under the skin and dissolve on their own. Most procedures can be completed in a few hours.

Vaccines

Vaccines are a vital part of maintaining your pet’s health throughout their life. We have completed extensive research to determine the safest and most effective vaccines for your pet. We give many core vaccines once every three years, and tailor all vaccines to your pet’s lifestyle.

X-rays

X-rays are another tool that we use at Foxbank Veterinary Hospital to identify a variety of different health concerns, including fractured bones and cancer. It is a critical part of diagnosing many diseases. Our veterinarian and team have spent many hours training with radiologists to become proficient in imaging your pet.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound, otherwise known as a sonogram, is a tool used to identify a variety of different diseases and illnesses. Our veterinarian and team have spent many hours training with radiologists to become proficient in imaging your pet.

Pet Cardiology

Your pet’s heart is very similar to your own in that it also has four chambers and valves, with the responsibility to pump blood throughout the entire body. There are certain breeds that are predisposed to heart disease or abnormal valves as they age. Our team will work diligently to listen for abnormalities or symptoms in your pet that may indicate heart disease. If your pet has heart disease, we can perform an echocardiogram, or heart ultrasound, to help determine the problem so that we can work with you on a course of treatment for your pet. This service is offered through our referral network.

In-House Laboratory

There are a variety of different illnesses and diseases that can be diagnosed through blood work. We have a full Heska laboratory in our veterinary hospital. This gives us the ability to answer any of your questions within minutes. Kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease and infections are just some of the problems that we can diagnose with our equipment.

Prescription Diets

Prescription diets are used to help improve the quality of life in pets. They can also be used in disease treatment and prevention. Prescription diets are often used for pets suffering from diabetes, obesity, cancer, arthritis and heart disease. At Foxbank Veterinary Hospital, we carry Hill’s, Royal Canin and Purina.

OFA Certification

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) is designed to help prevent the breeding of dogs with genetic orthopedic problems. Our veterinarian is able to take the necessary X-rays at our facility and send them off to radiologists for evaluation. It is crucial to discuss this with our team prior to breeding your pet.

Chemotherapy

Cancer is something that we are seeing more often today, likely due to the fact that we are able to diagnose and treat it so that your pet can live a longer life. There are a number of treatment options available for pets suffering from cancer. Treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Dogs and cats can handle chemotherapy very well compared to humans. Chemotherapy can be administered through our referral network. We also have a veterinary oncologist in town who is available for consultations and further referrals.

Soft Tissue & Orthopedic Surgery

At Foxbank Veterinary Hospital, we have a spacious surgery suite with advanced equipment that may be needed to perform most surgeries. Our veterinarian is proficient in many soft tissue surgeries, including spay and neuter, enterotomy, gastrotomy, cystotomy, splenectomy, gastropexy, tumor removal and more. We can also provide orthopedic procedures, such as luxating patella repair, cranial cruciate repair and FHO. We also have a board-certified surgeon who comes to our facility to perform advanced procedures.
